Decision map for choosing an Instagram scraper based on account access, workflow, and output needs

The best Instagram scraper in 2026 depends on the job. Scrape Creators is my API pick for public profiles, posts, reels, search, and comments as ready JSON. Choose Apify for visual setup and scheduled no-code runs, Bright Data for large managed batches, HikerAPI for deep Instagram-only coverage, and Meta’s official API for accounts that authorize your app.

Disclosure: I built Scrape Creators, so I am not a neutral observer. I kept this useful by linking every vendor’s own pricing and product pages, spelling out where Scrape Creators is weaker, and refusing to invent a benchmark I did not run. Prices and product claims were checked on August 21, 2026.

If you only want to export a few profiles once, a no-code tool may be easier than an API. If you are building a product, the boring details matter more: pagination, stable fields, failure behavior, credit rules, and whether one provider covers the other social networks in your workflow.

How we researched this list

This is a documentation and workflow comparison, not a head-to-head reliability test.

I checked each vendor’s live product, documentation, and pricing pages on August 21, 2026. I also made two real Scrape Creators calls for the public natgeo account. The profile request returned HTTP 200 with public profile fields. The posts request returned 12 items plus next_max_id, which confirmed the current pagination shape. I did not call paid competitor APIs, so I do not rank them by measured speed or success rate.

Search intent was checked across the live US results for best instagram scrapers, best instagram scraper, instagram scraper api, and instagram scraping api. The results mix three different products:

  1. Structured public-data APIs
  2. No-code scraper jobs and marketplaces
  3. General web scraping infrastructure

That split matters. A general browser API can fetch an Instagram page, but you may still need to maintain parsing. A dedicated Instagram API should return named fields. A no-code Actor adds schedules and exports, but its run and dataset model takes more setup than one REST request.

We also used Scrape Creators as a social research engine. The research covered five full YouTube transcripts, 49 unique YouTube comments plus five substantive replies, four Reddit threads, and 95 TikTok comments across four relevant videos. The useful themes were consistent even though this is qualitative evidence, not a survey:

  • People often need discovery first and enrichment second. Finding relevant account URLs by keyword, location, or hashtag can be harder than fetching one known profile.
  • A “comments” checkbox does not answer what buyers actually ask about: comment depth, date filters, follower thresholds, duplicates, and pagination.
  • No-code workflows still need field cleanup. One n8n and Apify walkthrough had to deduplicate usernames and filter profiles after collection.
  • Pricing questions are really workflow questions. A popular Instagram Reels automation video led viewers to ask about credits, concurrency, API setup, and whether captions and metrics are enough to understand a video.
  • Comments under an Apify Instagram tutorial repeatedly asked why only part of a post’s comments arrived, how older-date filters work, and where media URLs appear in the output.

Those questions changed this guide. The rankings below focus on workflow fit and limitations instead of repeating feature lists.

The 7 best Instagram scrapers in 2026

1. Scrape Creators

Best for: Developers who want public Instagram data as JSON without a monthly subscription.

Scrape Creators has separate endpoints for profiles, posts and reels, tagged posts, individual posts, search, trending reels, comments, comment replies, media transcripts, and highlights. A standard profile or posts request usually costs one credit. A cache hit can cost zero credits when you opt into a valid cache window.

The live pricing is simple enough to forecast. The site listed 100 free credits, $47 for 25,000 credits ($1.88 per 1,000), and $497 for 500,000 credits ($0.99 per 1,000). Credits are one-time purchases and do not expire. Some heavier endpoints cost more, and the docs state the exact cost.

There are real gaps. Scrape Creators handles public data, not private accounts. It is not a generic any-website scraper. The Instagram comments endpoint currently says to expect about a 90% success rate. Including replies adds 15 credits and can approach the 29-second request ceiling. The posts documentation also warns that public play counts can exclude views from a Reel cross-posted to Facebook.

Choose it when you want one API across Instagram and other public social platforms. Choose something else if you need a visual builder, arbitrary browser automation, or private data.

2. Apify Instagram Scraper

Best for: No-code setup, scheduled jobs, exports, and workflows built around the Apify Store.

Apify’s maintained Instagram Scraper Actor accepts profile, post, Reel, hashtag, and place URLs. It can also discover profiles, hashtags, or places from a search query. Results can be downloaded as JSON, CSV, Excel, or XML, and the same Actor can run through Apify’s API.

The current Actor page lists $2.70 per 1,000 results on the free plan, $2.30 on Starter, $1.90 on Scale, and $1.50 on Business. The wider Apify pricing page lists a free plan with $5 of monthly prepaid usage, then Starter at $29 per month, Scale at $199, and Business at $999. The plan credit can be spent on Store Actors or platform usage.

Apify is the easiest pick here for a marketer or automation builder who wants to click through setup, schedule a run, and send a dataset to another tool. It is less direct for an application that only wants GET profile and a stable JSON contract. Its own page also says the free plan is limited to about 15 comments per post, and URLs and search queries cannot be mixed in the same run.

3. Bright Data Instagram Scraper

Best for: Enterprise teams, managed batches, and buyers who prefer record-based delivery.

Bright Data offers separate Instagram scrapers for profiles, posts, hashtags, Reels, comments, and images. You can use an API or no-code interface, submit bulk jobs, and pay only for successfully delivered records.

The dedicated Instagram page listed 5,000 records per month for free, a pay-as-you-go rate of $1.50 per 1,000 records, and a $499 per month Scale plan with 384,000 records plus $1.30 per additional 1,000. It also advertises unlimited concurrency and bulk input of up to 5,000 URLs.

This is the clearest enterprise option in the list. Bright Data sells broad data infrastructure, support, and managed collection rather than just a narrow social endpoint. That can be exactly what a procurement-heavy data team wants. It can also be too much platform for a small app that needs a handful of profile or post requests.

4. HikerAPI

Best for: Instagram-only applications that need broad public endpoint coverage.

HikerAPI focuses on Instagram. Its current site lists public profiles, posts, Reels, stories, highlights, followers, following, comments, likers, hashtags, locations, search, and GraphQL endpoints.

The pricing page advertises 100 free requests and rates starting at $0.0006 per request, or $0.60 per 1,000 at the lowest published rate. It uses a prepaid balance with no monthly fee, and the balance does not expire.

Read the billing rule before comparing that number with per-record services. HikerAPI says it charges for responses such as 200, 400, 403, and 404, while 50x failures are not charged. One request can also represent a different amount of returned data than one Bright Data record or one Apify result.

HikerAPI is attractive when Instagram is the whole product and public follower or following lists are a hard requirement. It is less convenient if your next request is for TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, or LinkedIn and you want one vendor contract.

5. EnsembleData

Best for: Multi-platform social products that can work with a daily unit allowance.

EnsembleData’s Instagram API covers public profiles, follower and following lists, posts, videos, comments, replies, hashtags, keyword search, and trending content. The same product family covers TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Reddit, Twitch, X, and Snapchat.

Pricing uses units rather than a single per-request rate. The live pricing page listed a free tier with 50 units per day, then $100 per month for 1,500 units per day, $200 for 5,000, and higher tiers. Endpoint costs vary. The page showed examples such as three units for user info, four for basic statistics or post comments, and ten for detailed user info. Post-list endpoints can charge by the number of posts.

That daily model can work well for a steady application. It is harder to compare with one-time credit packs if your workload arrives in bursts. Map your exact endpoint chain before estimating cost.

6. SociaVault

Best for: A second pay-as-you-go option for teams that want one API across many social platforms.

SociaVault’s documentation lists Instagram profile, post, Reel, search, hashtag search, comments, replies, transcripts, and highlight endpoints. It also covers more than 25 platforms.

The pricing page listed 50 free credits, a $29 one-time pack with 6,000 credits, a $79 pack with 20,000, and larger packs. Credits do not expire. SociaVault says most endpoints cost one credit, with the exact cost shown in its docs.

This is a reasonable neutral alternative when you like prepaid credits and broad social coverage. Scrape Creators and SociaVault overlap more than the other tools here, so compare the exact Instagram endpoints you need, their fields, and failure behavior. Do not decide from the per-credit price alone.

7. Meta’s official Instagram API

Best for: Accounts that authorize your app, publishing workflows, moderation, and account insights.

Meta’s official API is not a public-profile scraper. It belongs in the comparison because it is the right first choice when a business or creator connects their own account to your app. Do not pay a third party to scrape data that the account owner can authorize through the official platform.

Be careful with old tutorials. Meta retired the Instagram Basic Display API on December 4, 2024. Current integrations should start from the Instagram Platform documentation rather than code written for Basic Display.

Use a public-data provider when your use case is research across public accounts that have not authorized your app. Use Meta when account authorization is part of the product.

Pricing and capability comparison

Prices below were verified from vendor pages on August 21, 2026. They are not perfectly comparable. A result, record, request, and unit can each represent a different amount of data.

The older version of this article listed Scrapingdog as an Instagram provider. Its old Instagram URL now redirects to a general social API page that did not list Instagram when checked, so I removed it instead of preserving a stale recommendation.

What real Instagram scraping workflows need

The social research changed the comparison in four practical ways.

Separate discovery from enrichment

A common request is “find hair salons in New York, then give me each account’s follower count and recent posts.” Those are two jobs. Discovery finds candidate handles or URLs. Enrichment fetches structured profile and post data.

This distinction showed up in a profile-scraping walkthrough and in a Reddit thread about profile discovery at scale. If a vendor supports profile lookup but no search, plan for another discovery source. If it supports search, check whether that search returns actual Instagram results or Google-discovered URLs.

Ask how pagination fails

“Supports comments” tells you almost nothing. Ask:

  • How many comments arrive on page one?
  • Is the cursor stable?
  • Can replies be fetched separately?
  • What happens when a post has hundreds of comments?
  • Does an empty page consume credits?
  • Are newest, top, and chronological orders available?

The same applies to posts and follower lists. A screenshot of one successful result is not production evidence.

Budget the whole endpoint chain

A creator-research workflow might call search, profile, posts, comments, and perhaps a transcript endpoint. At one credit each, a “profile” can become several billable calls. With unit pricing, a detailed profile and its posts may use different unit amounts. With result pricing, 1,000 comments and 1,000 profiles can cost the same even though the workloads are very different.

Write down the chain before comparing vendors. The decision graphic for this article shows the useful order: define access, pick the input, fetch the smallest useful object, paginate, normalize, then analyze.

Decide whether metadata is enough

Captions, likes, comments, play counts, and duration help rank content. They do not tell you everything said or shown inside a video. A TikTok commenter under a scraper automation asked this directly: does the workflow know the content, or only the description and numbers?

If you are building content intelligence, check whether the provider can return audio transcripts, media URLs, or enough metadata for a separate vision or speech step. Do not market caption-only analysis as full video understanding.

A real Scrape Creators request

This request was run on August 21, 2026 against the public natgeo profile. It returned HTTP 200 and charged one credit.

curl --get 'https://api.scrapecreators.com/v1/instagram/profile' \
  --data-urlencode 'handle=natgeo' \
  --data-urlencode 'trim=true' \
  -H 'x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY'

Representative response excerpt:

{
  "success": true,
  "credits_charged": 1,
  "data": {
    "user": {
      "username": "natgeo",
      "full_name": "National Geographic",
      "is_private": false,
      "is_verified": true
    }
  }
}

The matching posts request returned 12 items and a next_max_id cursor. Its item fields included media_type, caption, play_count, comment_count, like_count, video_duration, and has_audio.

See the Instagram API overview for the endpoint catalog, or follow the longer Instagram data scraping guide if you want to build a complete workflow. You can also compare the Actor model in Apify vs Scrape Creators.

How to choose an Instagram scraper

Pick the smallest product that covers the real job.

Choose Scrape Creators if you are writing code, need public Instagram JSON, want the same API key for other social networks, and prefer one-time credits. Accept that some hard endpoints, especially comments, have documented failure cases.

Choose Apify if the visual console, schedules, datasets, and integrations save more time than a direct REST endpoint. It is especially good for analysts and n8n builders who want less code.

Choose Bright Data if you need large managed batches, procurement support, bulk jobs, and broad enterprise data infrastructure.

Choose HikerAPI if Instagram depth matters more than a multi-platform contract, especially for public follower, following, story, or GraphQL workflows.

Choose EnsembleData if you already like its unit model and need several social platforms on one subscription.

Choose SociaVault if you want another prepaid multi-platform option and its exact endpoint fields match your application.

Choose Meta if users connect accounts they own or manage. The official route is better than scraping for authorized publishing, moderation, and insight workflows.

Before signing a large plan, run your own fixture set. Use public examples that match production: a large profile, a small profile, a Reel, a carousel, a post with many comments, a deleted post, and a nonexistent handle. Record status, response fields, cursor behavior, credits charged, and empty-result handling. That is more useful than a vendor’s generic success-rate claim.

Public data is not the same as unrestricted data. Instagram can restrict automated access through its terms, and privacy, marketing, copyright, and database rules depend on jurisdiction and use. This article is not legal advice.

A practical minimum:

  • Collect only data needed for a defined use case.
  • Do not bypass private-account controls or ask a provider to do it.
  • Do not treat a public email as permission for bulk outreach.
  • Store the least personal data you can and set a deletion policy.
  • Respect account deletion, opt-out, and correction requests where applicable.
  • Review Meta’s current platform and automated collection terms before launch.

The old version of this guide wrongly framed private profiles and contact details as a “high-risk, high-reward” feature category. That was bad advice. Private data access is not a legitimate differentiator for this list, and it has been removed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Instagram scraper API in 2026?

For public social data in a developer product, my pick is Scrape Creators because it returns structured JSON through separate endpoints and uses one-time credits. Apify is a better fit for no-code workflows. Bright Data is the enterprise bulk option. This is a workflow verdict, not an uptime benchmark.

Can I scrape Instagram without logging in?

Managed public-data APIs can return public profile, post, Reel, search, and comment data without asking you to maintain Instagram login accounts. Exact coverage differs by provider. That does not make private content available.

Can I scrape Instagram followers and following lists?

HikerAPI and EnsembleData currently advertise public follower and following endpoints. Scrape Creators does not position follower-list collection as a core Instagram capability. Verify the exact endpoint, pagination depth, and account types you need before buying credits.

What is the cheapest Instagram scraper?

There is no honest answer without defining a workload. HikerAPI publishes the lowest simple request rate in this list, starting at $0.0006 per request. Apify and Bright Data price by result or record. EnsembleData uses units. Scrape Creators and SociaVault sell credits. Compare the cost of a full profile-to-post-to-comment workflow, not one headline unit.

Are Instagram scraping APIs reliable?

They can be useful in production, but Instagram changes frequently and difficult endpoints fail. Test with your own fixtures, monitor empty responses as well as HTTP errors, and keep a fallback or retry policy. A vendor that documents a 90% comment success rate is giving you more planning value than one that says “enterprise-grade” without a method.

Should I build my own Instagram scraper?

Build it if scraping infrastructure is part of your product advantage and you can maintain sessions, proxies, parsers, retries, and monitoring. Buy an API if the data is an input to your product and maintenance would distract your team. For a broader comparison of those tradeoffs, read the best web scraping APIs guide.

If the direct API route fits, start with 100 free Scrape Creators credits and run the same fixtures you would use against any provider.
